Oscar Party Ideas

It's that time of year again!  I was invited to my first Oscar party this year, but I can't go because of my surgery!  Ugh!!!  So I am going to have improvise here.

I have some of my own ideas and some I have come across in my travels through the internet.  I hope you can enjoy the Oscars the way I do!  I love the movies so much and this night is so fun for me!!

Here are some food ideas:

This cake from the Wilton website is really easy to make since the popcorn on it is real popcorn!

Savory Shrimp Shooters

1 Tablespoon Butter
1 Cup Mushrooms sliced
½ Cup Onion chopped
1 Cup Chicken Broth
1 lb. of Pre Cooked Shrimp cut into small pieces
½ Cup Instant Rice, uncooked
1 Pint Heavy Cream
2 Cups frozen Corn
2 Tablespoons Corn Starch
1 Tablespoon Fresh Basil chopped
1 Tablespoon Fresh Dill chopped
1/2 teaspoon Seasoning Salt
1/2 teaspoon Fresh Ground Black Pepper
1/2 Cup Philadelphia Whipped Cream Cheese
6 slices of white bread toasted, cut into hearts and then cut in half

In a large dutch oven, melt butter.  Add onion and mushrooms and saute until soft, about 2 minutes.  Next add chicken broth, shrimp, rice, cream, corn, cream cheese.  Add all spices.  Cook and stir frequently until it comes to a simmer, about 5 minutes.  Continue to simmer for about 5 more minutes.   Spoon into shooter glasses and top with toast point croutons.

Serves about 12.

·         24 Large Fresh Basil leaves
·         ½ lb. Mozzarella cheese
  1. In a large mixing bowl mix together garlic, seasoned salt, black pepper and olive oil.
  2. Gently mix in tomatoes.
  3. Chill in refrigerator for 30 minutes.
  4. Slice bread on a diagonal about 1/4 inch thick.
  5. Remove tomatoes from olive oil mixture and set aside.
  6. Brush tops of bread slices with olive oil mixture.
  7. Place on a cookie sheet and bake in oven for about 5 minutes.  Until just toasted.
  8. Place a large leaf of Basil on each slice of bread and top with a slice of tomato. Top with a scoop of mozarell cheese.
Tuxedo and Pearls Oreo Cookies

These cookies look so easy to make and so fun!!!

Sinful Strawberry Daiquiris

1 small box Strawberry Jello
1 small boxes Vanilla cook pudding
2 1/2 cups Water
1 tubs Cool Whip
1 container Whipped Philadelphia Cream Cheese
1 pint Strawberries

In a large sauce pan, combine Jello, Pudding, and water.  Over medium high heat cook for about 10 minutes stirring constantly.  When the mixture darkens and becomes syrupy, it is ready.

Pour into a mixing bowl and beat in cream cheese.

Add Cool Whip in small amounts.  Whisk thoroughly after each addition.  Reserve 3 or 4 strawberries for garnish.  Dice up other strawberries and fold into mixture.  Pour mixture into a martini glasses.  Slice reserved strawberries and use as garnish on top.  Chill for 30 minutes.

Now for the fun stuff.  Making the boring parts of the Oscars fun with some games is always a good idea.  After all, they save the good stuff until the end.

Oscar Bingo Cards

Now I am a traditionalist.  I actually have a theater style popcorn machine and will be enjoying that wonderful aroma with a nice bucket (a ceramic red and white theater style bucket) on Sunday night.  But the microwave works perfectly well and the dollar store usually has some paper movie theater bags or plastic cups.

Here is a set of 2 plastic buckets for a dollar at Dollar Tree:

As for decor, that's pretty simple, gold!  Everything in gold or black!  And stars!!!  Lots and lots of stars!!!!  Again, Dollar tree has a great selection.  Here are some gold mylar balloons that would be great.

As for beverages, well that depends on what you want.  Champagne is always a good choice.  But, if you want to go with the movie theater theme, you can go with bottles of cola and beer.

Well, those are the ideas I have for your celebration.  I hope you come back and let me know what you use and how it turns out.
